At the Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre, we believe that art is for everyone. We pride ourselves on creating an open and friendly environment where creativity is celebrated and shared. Art shouldn’t be exclusive or reserved for an elite few—it should be accessible to all who wish to experience, learn, and be inspired.

    Exhibition Support and Services

Services the Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre provides, free of charge:

    • Marketing each exhibition through email, print, and social media
    • Additional radio advertising provided for select shows
    • Exhibition opening event expenses including bartending, staffing, and live music
    • Curation and/ or curatorial suggestions for each exhibition
    • Creation and distribution of a Collectors Catalogue
    • Packaging work with the artists during takedown – using the original packing materials
    • Communication with potential buyers, including locally, nationally and internationally
    • Packaging and shipping items that sell during the show – shipping is at the buyers expense
    • All POS transactions and system fees are covered by RVAC

    Artist Fees

The Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre offers an alternative model for compensating our artists. Unfortunately we are unable to pay CARFAC / artist’s fees at this time. In lieu of artist fees we provide a reduced commission rate on all gallery and gift shop sales, with 70% to the artist and 30% to the gallery. RVAC also provides additional support to our artists and covers all costs associated with the installation, marketing, and opening of an exhibition.

While we cannot currently pay artist fees, we can help you with letters of support for grant applications. Please contact us if you are interested in seeking out funding and granting opportunities.

We recognize that this alternative compensation model may not work for all artists. While we are aiming to transition to a CARFAC model in the future it is not financially possible at this time. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns, we aim to be transparent throughout the entire exhibition process.

The Galleries

The Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre hosts Revelstokes only public art gallery that displays up to 25 shows per year throughout our main gallery and three side galleries. Situated in the old RCMP building, the Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre has character complete with previously used jail cells in our back programming area. Our main gallery hosted Revelstoke’s courthouse and the judges chambers.

This gallery, through countless volunteer, staff and community hours, has now been home to several hundred exhibitions with local artists, Kootenay artists, artists across the province and beyond.

The Main Gallery

The Main Gallery is our most sought after room with the largest space it commands attention. This is the space we offer most often to established professional artists. This gallery lends itself well to group shows or to individuals with sculpture or bigger works.

Floor Area: 23 x 30 feet

Gallery Height: 11 feet

Gallery One

Gallery One is the first room you enter off of our main gallery, closest to our gift shop. This is the largest of our three side galleries. We recently removed the slat wall from this gallery which opened this room up to more hanging options and gave the whole space a wider feel.

Floor Area: 15 x 15 feet

Gallery Height: 8 feet

Gallery Two

Gallery two is the middle of our side galleries. This is a smaller intimate space and is perfect for the up and coming artist, or the artist whose body of work they wish to show is smaller. This gallery works well for small scale installation work.

Floor Area: 15 x 9 feet

Gallery Height: 8 feet

Gallery Three - Sophie Atkinson Gallery

Gallery three is named after the founder of the Revelstoke Art Group and integral part of the artistic community of Revelstoke, Sophie Atkinson. This gallery is the farthest from the entrance with leading light from the main gallery.

Floor Area: 14 x10 feet

Gallery Height: 8 feet
