Join us for a unique and educational experience at our “Invasive Flower Pounding Workshop” in collaboration with the Columbia Shuswap Invasive Species Society (CSISS). This multifaceted workshop will be led by the talented Charise Folnovic & Jess Booth! Discover how invasive plants can be repurposed into art, turning a conservation challenge into a source of inspiration.
Date: July 15th, 9am – 11am
Location: Meet at the greenbelt, Kovach Park entrance (Skate park)
Cost: $10 Per Person
Who: Open to teens and adults over 12
What: Bring a hat and a water bottle, all other materials will be provided
Learn how to transform invasive plant species into beautiful designs through the technique of flower pounding, or “Tatakizome”. Delve into this ancient Japanese technique which uses hammers or mallets to release the natural pigments from flowers and leaves. Every student will leave with extra knowledge about local invasives and a collection of stunning botanical imprints.
No prior experience is necessary, as this workshop is suitable for participants of all skill levels. All materials will be provided, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable creative journey. Spaces are limited
