Birte Spreuer was born in Germany in 1985. She studied art and design at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Saar. After living in Amsterdam, Cologne and Sarregemuines, she made the long journey to Canada, where she now lives in the mountain town of Revelstoke. Her work is influenced both by her years in major European cities and by the natural experience of her life in Canada. The focus of her work is the broad field of love, joy and sensuality. Her artistic journey extends to installations, prints and paintings, all underpinned by a decidedly feminist and community-oriented perspective.
Artist Statement
“My work is about love. About how we try to make sense of this flying rock we’re all living on. It’s about having hope, accepting the sad and the happy. About having trust, trust in our-selves, in our experiences, in our paths. About being bold and brave. About staying open and vulnerable. About sharing and connecting. I infuse my pieces with love and care. With joy and color. As a reminder to lick up every second of this precious life.”
