Beginner Pottery

If you’ve never tried working with clay or would like to have a refresher course then this class is for you. Come and learn some of the skills and techniques when working with clay including pinch, coil and slab construction.

Intro to Sculpture for Adults and Teens

Take a leap to three-dimensional artwork with no experience necessary!  This fundamentals class will cover four different techniques and materials to create sculptures.   Learn about balance, form, and aesthetics while creating a sculpture in wire, clay, soap carving, and paper caste projects.   Both abstract and realism will be explored.

Encaustic: Wax and Pigment Painting

Drawing More than a Stickman

Yes, you can!!  Using techniques to overcome perceived limitations, negative internal dialog and the anxiety it creates, discover your true potential with this drawing fundamentals class.  Course covers pencil, charcoals, conte, and eraser as drawing tools while utilizing hand/eye coordination, mark-making, positive & negative space, composition, texture, line and light.  Subjects will include portraiture, still life, and image replication.

Bookbinding: Coptic Stitch and Folding

Create your own journal from scratch! Using artistic paper, Coptic stitching, and specific folding techniques to produce a one-of-a-kind piece of literary artwork.

Acrylic Painting Level 2
Instructor: Barbara Maye
Oct 16 – Nov 6 (4 classes)

For students with some painting experience, we continue the journey of painting acrylic realism.  Course covers complementary and non-local colour usage using opaque and transparent techniques with a higher level of difficulty – working on larger canvases over longer periods of time.

Jewellery: Pendants and Earrings with Silver Clay
Instructor: Dana Cloghesy
Saturday, Oct 28, 9am – 3pm (one hour lunch break)
$135 (includes materials)

Using Art Clay silver, students roll, texture, shape and sand pieces. Work is then fired in a kiln resulting in clay being sintered into pure silver. Once polished in a jewellery tumbler, jump rings and ear wires will be attached. Gemstone embellishments and additional clay available for extra cost.

Continuing Pottery

This is a continuing pottery class for those students who have completed Beginner Pottery or who have permission from the instructor.

November

Watercolour

$125 (plus $25 material fee unless materials supplied by student)
These classes are for anybody wanting to learn how to use watercolours and those with experience who wish to develop their skills. You will be introduced to basic techniques including colour mixing, applying washes and picture composition. For those with experience, skills will be developed by learning how to mix paints on the paper instead of the palette, along with techniques used for painting images of water and reflections.

Printmaking

Learn basic printmaking techniques and create your own hand made cards and multiple prints.

Recycled Sculpture for Teens and Adults
Instructor: Barbara Maye
Nov 13 – Dec 4
Mondays 6 -8 pm
$120 (materials included, although students will need to supply some materials  based on projects chosen)
Two projects of constructive sculpture will be created during this workshop using your own recycled materials.  Planning, balance, form and aesthetics will be covered while exploring multi-media approaches inspired by your favorite artist and the materials in your home.
